Sheridan’s softball team made history on Tuesday by clinching the Hoosier Heartland Conference championship.
The Blackhawks beat Eastern 3-0 to win the conference title. Sheridan finished 7-1 in the conference, so the ‘Hawks can do no worse than tie for the championship. Eastern is 5-1 with two games left to play.
The ‘Hawks scored their first run in the second inning, when Allie Delph got home on a passed ball. Katy Crail scored in the third inning after Addyson Ream reached on error, then Riley Reed scored on an error in the fourth inning.
Ream pitched the complete game win, striking out 11 and allowing only one hit.
On Monday, Sheridan beat Clinton Prairie 15-5 in a five-inning game at Biddle Park.
The Gophers scored a run in the top of the first inning, but it was all Blackhawks after that. Sheridan scored six runs in the bottom of the first, starting with back-to-back RBI singles from Jayden Warren and Addyson Ream. Caitlin Neese had a two-RBI hit, Breanna Bouse scored Neese, and Katy Crail doubled in a run.
Neese and Riley Reed both had three hits, with Warren, Ream, Taylor Bates, Bouse and Emma Went all getting two hits. Ream hit a home run in the second inning. Neese totaled four RBIs, with Warren and Bouse batting in three runs. Bouse pitched three innings for the win.
Sheridan is 9-4 and hosts Tri-West at 5 p.m. today.
