Hamilton Southeastern scored early and late, and that got the Royals past Noblesville 7-4 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game Thursday at Ken Seitz Field.
Southeastern got three runs in the first inning. Cole DeWael smacked a triple to right field, and was promptly doubled home by Greyson Droste. Brayton Harrison came up next, and his base hit brought in Droste. Harrison scored on Jack DeWolf’s RBI groundout.
The Millers got one run back in the second inning, when Zach Gruver got home on an error. The score remained 3-1 until Noblesville took the lead in the fifth inning with three runs. Ethan Imel doubled Cole Barnes home, then DJ Owens tied the game with a sacrifice fly to score Lucas Williams. Miles came up next, and his center field hit brought in Camden Nagel, putting the Millers in front 4-3.
But the Royals scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth. DeWael drew a bases-loaded walk to score Jake Stout, then Caden Ruhnow got home when Droste reached on error. Harrison sent a two-RBI base hit into center field, bringing in Eggers and DeWael.
Harrison was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Eggers also hit a double. Michael Dillon got the pitching win, striking out eight over six innings. Williams had two hits for the Millers. Clay Holzworth went five and two-thirds innings, throwing six strikeouts.
The two teams will finish the series at 6 p.m. tonight at Don Dunker Field.
