Busy week for tennis as HCC meet starts today

It’s been a busy week for Hamilton County’s Hoosier Crossroads Conference tennis teams.
Noblesville and Westfield each played two dual meets to start the week, including one against Fishers. The Shamrocks played the Tigers on Monday, with Fishers winning 4-1. On Tuesday, the Tigers beat the Millers, also by the score of 4-1.
Noblesville began the week by falling to Avon 4-1 on Monday. The Millers’ lone win against both Avon and Fishers came from No. 1 doubles, with Alex Greer and Katelyn Decker beating the Orioles’ No. 1 team in straight sets, then winning a third-set super tiebreaker 10-8 to get past the Tigers’ team.
On Tuesday, Westfield fell to Franklin Central 4-1. No. 2 singles Julia Gabennesch won her match 6-0, 6-0.

Hamilton Southeastern picked up a big Hoosier Crossroads Conference win over No. 24-ranked Brownsburg 5-0 on Monday.
The 14th-ranked Royals won four of the five matches in straight sets. Tea Vrkic took No. 3 singles in three sets, running away with the third set 6-0.
On Tuesday, Southeastern lost a hard-fought Senior Night dual meet to Lawrence North 3-2. The Royals got their wins in doubles: The No. 1 team of senior Jeorgia Templin and junior Taylor Cleary won 6-0, 6-1.
“It was great to see Jeorgia get a win on her senior night, and she played a nearly flawless match,” said HSE coach Kirk Webber. “She and Taylor played great together and really limited their errors.”
A pair of freshmen, Emily Orme and Meghan Slaninka, took the No. 2 doubles match in straight sets.
Lawrence North won all of the singles matches in straight sets.
Southeastern is 5-1 in HCC play and 7-5 overall. It will join Noblesville, Westfield and Fishers in playing at the HCC tournament, which starts today at Avon.

Hamilton Heights began play at the Hoosier Conference tournament Wednesday at Twin Lakes.
The Huskies won four of their five first-round matches, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory for No. 1 singles Addi Gordon. No. 3 singles Ella Maiden won in three sets.
