Softball: Late rally sends Trojans past ‘Hounds

Carmel dropped a 3-2 game at Bishop Chatard on Friday.
The Greyhounds scored their first run in the second inning, when Halle Robinson’s line drive brought Caroline Roop home. Megan Nichols batted in Audrey Hussain with a third-inning single. But the Trojans rallied, scoring all three of their runs in the sixth inning.
Nichols and Robinson were both 2-for-3 at the plate. Sommer Edwards pitched five innings, striking out eight.
Carmel is 6-6 and hosts Brownsburg on Monday.

‘Rocks break away, beat Scecina

Westfield broke away in the sixth inning, and that sent the Shamrocks to a 9-4 win over Scecina in a Friday afternoon home game.
The Crusaders scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first inning, but the Shamrocks tied it up quickly in the bottom of the first. Brooklyn Carey scored the first run on an RBI groundout by Lexi Martin. Natalie Deck also scored on a wild pitch.
Deck batted in a third-inning run, bringing in Avery Parker. Reghan Oland got an RBI hit in the fourth inning, sending Zoe Klink home and putting Westfield up 4-2. Scecina tied up the game in the top of the fifth, but the ‘Rocks took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning, as Deck’s triple scored Carey.
Westfield added four runs in the sixth inning. Deck hit a two-RBI single to score Oland and Parker, then Martin doubled home Carey and Deck.
Deck was 4-for-4 at the plate, batting in four runs. Klink was 2-for-4. Alexis McClure pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
The Shamrocks are 4-10 and host Lawrence North on Monday.
