NHS teacher Joe Akers wins national award

Noblesville Schools announced on Friday that Noblesville High School journalism teacher Joe Akers has been named by the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) as their Faculty Advisor of the Year.

Akers was considered for the national award after being honored by the Women’s Press Club of Indiana with the state Faculty Advisor of the Year award.

The award is based on Akers’s role leading NHS journalism students and considered several elements of his students’ reporting, including meeting objectives, relating to the audience, using resources effectively, impacting readers and producing high quality content.

Three NHS students won national “best in show” journalism awards from NFPW last year and it was announced earlier this year that two NHS journalists were the only students in Indiana to receive a national press association broadcast award.

Akers has been with Noblesville Schools since 2007, teaching English and journalism.
