Track and field: Three schools win duals, Miller girls take Pendleton Invite

The Carmel girls team beat Zionsville 104.5-27.5 in a Tuesday dual meet.
The Greyhounds won each running event, plus two field events. Phoebe Bates was a double winner in the 1600 and 3200 runs.
“Tonight was a great chance to try a few new things,” said Carmel coach Aaron McRill. “Some paid off, others not quite. We’ll keep working hard to improve and keep moving forward as a team.”
McRill said there was a “great race” in the 1600 between Bates and Zionsville’s Katelyn Wasson. “A couple of different strategies made for a great race and fast times,” said McRill.

The Golden Eagles boys team won 117.5-35.5. Billy Freudenthal won three events, sweeping the 110 and 300 hurdles and also taking the high jump. Nick Demas was first in both the shot put and discus. Guerin’s girls won 101-44, with Joelle Klavon placing first in the 200 and 400 dashes.
