Fishers dropped the final game of its three-game series with Zionsville 6-3 Saturday at the Eagles field. This game was played as a non-conference game.
JJ Woolwine scored the Class 4A No. 2 Tigers’ first run in the top of the first inning. Woolwine drew a walk, advanced to third base on a Kiel Brenczewski single, then scored on an error. Zionsville answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, and held the lead from that point forward.
Fishers added its other two runs in the fifth inning. Grant Whetsel and Nick Lukac hit back-to-back singles, with Whetsel advancing to third on Lukac’s hit. Charlie Walker scored Whetsel on a well-executed safety squeeze play, then Woolwine doubled home Lukac. Brenczewski and Lukac both had two hits.
Tristan Baker (0-1) pitched extremely well in his first start for Fishers. Baker gave up one earned run through five innings. He faced two batters in the sixth, both of whom later scored to up his total earned runs allowed to three. Overall, Baker struck out eight, while allowing three earned runs from seven hits and one walk. He even pulled off the abnormal four strikeouts in one inning as one strikeout victim reached on a dropped third strike that kicked away from the catcher. Daniel Owens struck out the side in his one inning of relief.
The Tigers are 3-5 and return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they play Greenfield at home. Fishers then takes on Noblesville for a three-game series on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
