Each candidate was invited for interviews with their board and after a vote they unanimously decided to endorse Aasen, a first-time candidate for elected office.

Aasen, co-owner of Donatello’s Italian Restaurant, talked about his experience as a small business owner and how he would keep Carmel’s economy strong, which helps keep residential property taxes low.

“It’s important to send someone to the City Council who has run a business and understands our business community,” Aasen said. “We need that experience when it comes to attracting new corporate headquarters to Carmel. With a booming economy, the city is currently able to keep Carmel’s residential property taxes among the lowest in the state.”

Aasen talked about policy decisions that ensure Carmel remains a desirable place to live. He supports amenities such as multi-use paths and public parks. He said he’ll prioritize public safety and road maintenance in every annual budget.

“Carmel is consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in the United States,” Aasen said. “My goal is to keep Carmel great for generations to come.”
