After listening to speeches by both candidates, the Carmel Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 185 has voted to endorse Adam Aasen for Carmel City Council. Aasen is a first-time candidate running in the Republican primary to represent southeast Carmel on the City Council.
Aasen was also recently endorsed by the Carmel Professional Firefighters Union Local 4444.
Aasen said he’s honored by both endorsements. He said ensuring public safety is key to keeping Carmel a desirable place to live. Recently, Safewise.com named Carmel the second safest place to live in Indiana.
Aasen’s first job out of college was actually as a public safety reporter for the Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville, Fla.
“Nearly every night I went out to homicide callouts, traffic accidents, house fires, shootings and more,” he said. “Very early on, I gained an appreciation for the role that first responders play in making our community great.”
Aasen has become familiar with local Carmel police through his time as a reporter for Current in Carmel. He praised the Carmel Police Department’s efforts to proactively tackle the opioid epidemic and reach out to Carmel youth.
“We have a police department in Carmel that is proactive instead of reactive and their response time is phenomenal,” he said.
