Hamilton Southeastern scored a win over Carmel on Tuesday, 14-1 in six innings at the Greyhounds’ Cherry Tree Softball Complex. It was the season opener for both teams.
The Royals started the game with a two-run home run by Nicole Lang with two runs in the top of the first inning, which also scored Abby Taylor. Taylor scored another run in the third, then Olivia Capuano hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth to get Lillian Leiner home, after Leiner had gotten on base with a triple.
Taylor got home again in the fifth inning on a passed ball, then Leiner smacked a three-run homer with one out. Kennedy Morgan opened the sixth inning with solo home run, then Leiner and Kaelin Wincek each singled in one run. Capuano then hit a three-run homer to put Southeastern up 14-0.
Carmel scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth, with Stormy Kotzelnick getting home on an error.
Taylor went 4-for-4 at the plate, finished with four runs, while Leiner was 3-for-4. Leiner and Capuano each totaled four runs batted in for the game. Taylor stole three bases. Jaylah Guilliam pitched five innings for the win, allowing three hits and striking out three.
Kotzelnick and Caroline Roop both hit a double for Carmel.
The Royals next play Wednesday at North Central, while the Greyhounds host Cathedral on Friday.
