The Hamilton Southeastern boys lacrosse team split two games late this week.
On Thursday, the Royals lost to St. Rita (Ill.) in overtime 9-8. Ryan Kemp scored three goals and made three assists, while freshman Garrett Smith scored his first career goal. Luke Engelmann had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
On Friday, Southeastern beat Christian Brothers (Mo.) 13-3. The Royals led 4-3 at halftime, then took over in the second half with nine unanswered goals. Goalkeeper Timmy Mathioudakis had eight saves, with Cam Smith scoring four goals.
Tanner Williams and EJ Reichert both scored two goals, and freshman Blaine Wertz made his first career goal. Ty DeSplinter had a big game, but the game ball went to Sam Finefrock.
“Sam is quickly becoming a standout defensive midfielder for the Royals and played great both on and off ball defense tonight,” said coach Scott Beesley.
Carmel girls lacrosse wins
The Carmel girls lacrosse team improved to 3-0 after beating Penn 9-4 on Saturday.
Hannah Kim scored three goals for the Greyhounds.
