The high school indoor track season began in earnest last weekend, with several Hamilton County teams spreading out across the state to compete in meets.
All of these meets are designed to help athletes qualify for the Hoosier State Relays, which take place March 23 at Indiana University. The top 24 performances in the running, long jump and shot put events qualify for the relays, along with the top 18 in the high jump and pole vault.
On Saturday, Carmel, Hamilton Heights and Noblesville participated in the HSR Qualifier #2 at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion. Several athletes won events: In the boys meet, the Millers’ Andrew Herman won the high jump, while the Greyhounds’ Logan Sandlin placed first in the pole vault.
Meanwhile, two-time defending state champion Shelby Tyler of Noblesville won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches. Tyler also was first in the pole vault, while Carmel’s Phoebe Bates won the 1600 run.
Here is a complete list of results.
