Noblesville Schools announced Friday that six district schools have been nationally recognized as Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished Schools for providing broad access to transformative Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning opportunities for students.
The schools honored include Noblesville High School, Noblesville East Middle School, Noblesville West Middle School, North Elementary, Hinkle Creek Elementary and Stony Creek Elementary.
Noblesville East and West are the only middle schools in the state to receive the honor two years in a row. Noblesville High School is one of only three distinguished high schools in Indiana and one of only two to receive back-to-back recognition.
Noblesville Schools offers 14 different PLTW courses for middle and high school students, including classes like robotics, biomedical, cybersecurity and aerospace engineering. It is also one of only a few districts in the state to offer PLTW programming K-12, with elementary students exploring flight, energy, robotics and more.
“We’re committed to providing engaging opportunities for STEM learning at all grade levels and are honored to be named to this list of distinguished schools,” said Annetta Petty, Noblesville Schools executive director of learning. “This type of curriculum is important in developing skills for future educational opportunities, and ultimately for a wide range of in-demand career paths.”
The Distinguished School recognition honors schools committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW STEM programs. To be eligible for the designation, schools had to offer a variety of PLTW STEM courses and have a significant portion of students participating in them, while students had to demonstrate mastery in the content and continuation in the programming.
