Happy 40th Anniversary to Janus Developmental Services!

Flashback to the 1970s … A group of dedicated parents from Hamilton and Tipton counties, who wanted to provide the best possible opportunities for their children with developmental disabilities began to meet on a regular basis. These parents recognized that their children would benefit from programs and services which would enable them to develop important life skills.

Over the course of several years, the group worked tirelessly to develop programs and services which would meet the educational, vocational, transportation and social needs of their children. The strong leadership and amazing efforts generated by this group of parents encouraged the additional support of local businesses, county government and community residents, and led to the official birth of Janus on April 4, 1979.

Over the past 40 years, Janus has expanded on its founders’ hopes and dreams to provide many crucial programs, services and support to thousands of people. There are so many Janus stories to share with the community, but the list of stories will be narrowed down to just 40.

Please join The Hamilton County Reporter throughout this year as we recognize Janus’ 40th anniversary by sharing 40 stories in celebration of 40 years.
