The wrestling post-season moves into the semi-state round this Saturday, where wrestlers from all across Indiana will get their chance to advance to the state meet.
Hamilton County will have 37 wrestlers competing at the New Castle semi-state, which takes place at the Trojans’ famed fieldhouse. Action starts at 9 a.m. and will last all day. Six wrestlers advanced from the Pendleton Heights regional last Saturday, while the other 31 qualified out of the North Montgomery regional.
Carmel advanced 13 wrestlers out of North Montgomery, including six champions: Suhas Chundi, Kyle Holman, Joe Theriot, Gabe Davin, Cameron Bacon and Jack Heldt. Hamilton Southeastern qualified eight, including Jake Simone, the champion at 113 pounds. Westfield had six semi-state qualifiers, including champions Carson Eldred and Kyle Saez, with Fishers getting four wrestlers out to semi-state.
Noblesville advanced three wrestlers out from Pendleton Heights, with Hamilton Heights qualifying two and Guerin Catholic one.
Each weight division contains 16 wrestlers, so an athlete must win two matches in order to guarantee a top four finish and a place at the state finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, which take place Feb. 15 and 16.
