Carmel City Councilmember Tony Green filed for election Friday to the city’s Southwest District, where he has served since 2017.

Since winning a caucus in January 2017 to fill a vacancy for the district, Green has established himself as a strong and independent voice on the Carmel City Council.

“I am proud of the City of Carmel and what the mayor and council have accomplished over the years,” he said. “However, I see my role on the council as one of providing checks and balances. I’m here to ask the hard questions, then work constructively with the council and mayor to maintain the standards and quality of living that make Carmel a great place to live and raise a family.”

Tony’s priorities for the next four years on the Carmel Council include:

  1. Protecting against overdevelopment: To ensure future development is consistent and does not change the character of the existing areas and surrounding neighborhoods in West Carmel and Home Place.
  2. Improving public safety: Specifically to increase the number of Carmel police officers and their presence in the neighborhoods throughout Carmel.
  3. Maintaining infrastructure: To ensure that there is adequate funding and resources to maintain Carmel infrastructure.
  4. Scrutinizing fiscal spending: To advocate for prudent spending and for excess revenue to be prioritized toward building up the supplemental reserves and the rainy day fund.

Tony currently serves as Chief Legal and Compliance Officer for the Indiana Public Retirement System. Prior to serving in his current capacity, Tony practiced law as an attorney for Barnes and Thornburg, LLP.

Tony has had an extensive 30-year military career after graduating from the United States Air Force Academy. He served as a pilot for over 14 years serving on seven different deployments, the last of which included 33 combat missions into Afghanistan after 9/11. For the past 15 years he has served as a Judge Advocate and currently holds the rank of Colonel as the State Judge Advocate for the Indiana Air Guard.

Green and his wife, Peggy, a school teacher at Riley Hospital for Children, have three children who attend or have attended Carmel schools and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The family has been heavily involved in sports with the Carmel Dad’s Club (CDC), Carmel FC soccer program and CYO. Green coached each of his children’s CDC basketball teams and also served as a CDC Basketball Commissioner for several years. He and his family are parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
