Hamilton Heights avenged a regular-season loss to Yorkton on Tuesday, beating the Tigers in the first round of Sectional 24 at New Castle.
The Huskies won 38-20 to advance to Friday’s semi-final round. Heights left no doubt in this game, leading 17-4 after the first quarter. The Huskies held that margin at halftime, 24-11, then turned on its defense again in the third period, allowing Yorktown only two points.
“Great team effort defensively, especially Bayleigh Runner and Jillian Osswald were fantastic locking down Yorktown’s two main options,” said Heights coach Keegan Cherry. “Offensively we did a great job executing our actions against their 2-3 zone. Lauryn Wiley was solid all night and did a great job of finishing inside. We still have an uphill battle, but it was a great start to tournament play.”
Wiley led the Huskies’ scoring with 16 points, with Runner adding 10. Payton Dissett pulled five rebounds, and Runner blocked four shots.
Heights is 13-10 and will play Muncie Burris at 6 p.m. Friday in the first semi-final game.
