Huskies get back-to-back victories, Runner scores 32 against WeBo

In a little over 24 hours, the Hamilton Heights girls basketball team went from under .500 to over .500.
The Huskies won back-to-back games to begin the week. On Monday, Heights held off a huge comeback from Class 2A No. 6 Tipton to win that Hoosier Conference East game 49-47 at the Blue Devils’ gym. On Tuesday, the Huskies returned to their home gym, and took care of Western Boone 64-53.
Heights got off to a 10-3 first quarter start against Tipton, then extended its lead to 22-13 at halftime. The Huskies were ahead 32-19 after three periods, and that allowed them to absorb a 28-point fourth quarter from the Blue Devils.
Three Heights players landed in double figures. Bayleigh Runner scored 13 points, followed by Jillian Osswald with 11 and Lauryn Wiley with 10.
Mykayla Moran scored eight points, making four of her field goal attempts. Payton Dissett added seven points. Moran pulled five rebounds, as did Dissett and Wiley. Runner and Dissett each had four steals.
The Huskies were involved in a back-and-forth game with Western Boone for the first three quarters. The Stars led 17-15 after the first quarter, then Heights came back to lead 34-31 at halftime. The teams were tied at 47-47 at halftime, but the Huskies outscored WeBo 17-6 in the fourth.
Runner had another incredible game, pouring in 32 points. That included a perfect 10-of-10 performance from the free throw line, in addition to making 10 of 12 field goal attempts. Runner nailed two 3-pointers, pulled five rebounds and handed out five assists.
Wiley hit three 3s while scoring 17 points. She and Moran both collected five rebounds as well.
Heights is now 10-9 and will host Yorktown on Thursday. The Huskies will then play at Benton Central on Friday night in the Hoosier Conference third-place game; Heights win over Tipton clinched them second place in the conference’s East division.
