Sue Wolfgang has filed for election to become Carmel’s first City Clerk. With Carmel’s transition to a second-class city, the elimination of the position of Clerk-Treasurer means fiscal management will move to an appointed controller and the record-keeping for both the city and court will be managed by the City Clerk.

Wolfgang is a lifelong resident of Carmel and has worked for the city for more than 21 years. During this time, she served as the court reporter and assistant court clerk in Carmel City Court during her first 10 years and has served as the employee benefits manager in human resources for more than a decade.

The new City Clerk position will be responsible for the management of both city and court records, including agendas and minutes for city meetings, court dockets and filings, responding to requests for public information and the management of all court receipts and transactions.

“I love Carmel – what it is and what it will become,” said Wolfgang. “I’ve served the city for more than two decades and now look forward to serving the citizens in a new way. I believe my experience as a public servant provides a unique knowledge and perspective on problem-solving, as well as insight into the importance of accuracy and transparency in every level of government.”

Wolfgang serves on the Fountain Square Committee, the non-profit organization responsible for summer concerts at Carmel City Hall. She also serves on the board for the Carmel-Clay Historical Society. Wolfgang has one daughter, Kelsey, who works in management at Conner Prairie, teaches improvisational comedy to children and is active in local theater.
