Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County’s is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to working toward affordable housing for Hamilton County families. Haney shared the success of the organization is based in part on its mission, focus, and hard work of thousands of volunteers and partner organizations, such as the Cicero Kiwanis.

“Qualifying families, or partner families, are selected based on their need for housing, ability to repay the no-interest mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat by earning 200 hours of ‘sweat equity’,” Haney said. “Partner families earn these hours working on their own homes and the homes of other Habitat partner families, attending financial literacy classes, maintenance classes and working with other nonprofits in Hamilton County.”

Haney invited the group to join in where and when possible to help build safe, decent, affordable houses in partnership with hard-working, low-income families, assist in the office (Fishers ReStore), serve on a committee and/or help with special projects that benefit the organization.

“No experience necessary,” noted Haney, “as our staff and volunteer leaders will provide you with all the training needed. Our partner families work alongside many of our volunteers while they are earning sweat equity, so it’s a great way to meet future Habitat homeowners.”

The local organization is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together in partnership, building houses with families in need. Since its inception in 1976, Habitat for Humanity International has grown to more than 2,100 affiliates in more than 70 countries, including all 50 states.
