At the 2018 Atlanta Fire Department Christmas party on Dec. 8, Douglas Stoops was honored as a lifetime member of the department.
“This was for his time, effort and service to the community and the department,” Atlanta Fire Chief Jerry Liston told The Reporter. “In April, Doug will reach 44 years on the department. Not only did the department think he was worthy of this award, but the town did also.”
The department has only honored three other firefighters with lifetime member plaques, all posthumously. Stoops is the first to receive his award while still serving as a firefighter. The award was presented by Chief Liston.
