José S. Liberato

March 16, 1935 – May 14, 2017

José S. Liberato, 82, of Fishers, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at IU Health Saxony Hospital in Fishers.  He was born on March 16, 1935 to Severino and Beatriz (Sabio) Liberato in Corregidor Island, Philippines.

José had been a systems analyst at Mobil Oil Philippines and later on at ChinSu Philippines. During the time of his children’s youth, he organized summer basketball games for 15 years, and was also a basketball coach. In his later years, he and his wife were head of Pastoral ministry with BLD Catholic Covenant Community for 10 years. Here in the United States, he was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Dad Joe, as he is addressed by his loved ones, is particularly fond of dogs and children, but his favorite thing was chocolate! He, even with his back in pain, took pride in being the most fun of all the uncles (and grandpa) by doing ‘swing high, swing low’ up to their hearts’ desire. His happy-go-lucky and gentle demeanor will surely be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Emelinia Liberato; children, Stephanie (Dennis) Novales, Joel Liberato, John Jay Liberato and Jennifer (Brent) Liberato Derkson; adopted son, Donaldson Arañas; siblings, Armando (Melinda) Liberato, Antonio (Luz) Liberato and Caridad (Willy) Infante; and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Marjorie Liberato; and four siblings.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 9900 East 191st Street in Noblesville, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am prior to the service. Rev. Peter Logsdon will officiate.

The family has entrusted Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary with cremation.
