National speaker returns to Noblesville for Diversity Learning Series

Brooklyn-based educator Cornelius Minor is returning to Noblesville to continue the community learning series, “Going Beyond Diversity.” The national speaker has been invited back by the Noblesville Diversity Coalition thanks to the sponsorship of Noblesville Schools as a follow-up to the event held on Nov. 29 that was attended by more than 200 people.

“Going Beyond Diversity” Part II will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7 at Ivy Tech’s Noblesville campus, located at 300 N. 17th St. Attendance at the previous event is not required to attend Part II.

In her December 15 column as published in the Hamilton County Reporter, Jennifer Harris spoke with Minor after the first event. “It’s an exciting time to be a part of what Noblesville is doing,” said Minor. “I travel the country speaking and I don’t know another community that is doing what you guys are.”

The new forum will feature more of Minor’s unique and entertaining approach that invites audience members into a judgement-free dialogue on equity and inclusion by breaking the audience into large and small groups for in-depth and thoughtful discussions.

“At all NDC events, including the community learning series, we strive to create an atmosphere that is welcoming for everyone,” said Lisa Sobek, chairperson of the Noblesville Diversity Coalition’s executive council. “People can come learn and share their experiences and ask questions without fear of being judged. We’re all learning together.”

As an educator from Brooklyn, N.Y., Minor brings the ability to connect with any audience. He often uses technology, music and social media to engage people of all backgrounds.
