Sheridan’s basketball teams were swept in two close games by Clinton Prairie Friday at a Hoosier Heartland Conference doubleheader at Hobbs Memorial Hall.
The Blackhawks girls lost 44-39. The score was tied at 12-12 after the first quarter, then the Gophers surged ahead to a 23-19 halftime lead. Sheridan came back to tie the game at 35-35 by the end of the third period, but were held to four points by Prairie in the fourth.
Holly Barker scored 10 points and pulled eight rebounds. Berkley Williams nailed three 3-pointers to score nine points, while Jillian O’Flaherty hit two 3s. Heather Barker added eight points and six rebounds.
The Blackhawks boys team dropped its game 55-51. Sheridan led 17-11 after the first period, but the Gophers took control in the middle quarters, going up 25-24 by halftime and 38-33 after three.
Drake Delph and Caleb Duke each scored 13 points, with Duke making a pair of 3-pointers. Nick Burnell added 10 points and led the boards with six rebounds. Delph collected five rebounds.
The Blackhawk girls are 3-3 in the conference and 7-6 overall, and host Lapel on Thursday. Sheridan’s boys are 1-2 in the conference and 3-4 overall and play at Lapel next Friday.
