Local lawmakers encourage students who want to learn more about state government to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2019 legislative session.

“The House page program offers a firsthand look at how state government runs,” said State Rep. Tony Cook (R-Cicero). “Every year, students who participated in the program say it was an excellent learning opportunity, and I hope others can experience it as well.”
Those who are between the ages of 13 to 18 can spend a day at the Statehouse in Indianapolis helping staff and local legislators, touring government offices and learning about the legislative process.
“In addition to taking a day off from school to visit our state’s capitol, students are encouraged to explore how the legislature works and participate in a number of interesting activities,” said State Rep. Chuck Goodrich (R-Noblesville). “This is a great educational experience, and I look forward to welcoming students from our community to the Statehouse.”
Student pages receive an excused absence from school and groups can participate together.

“We have many bright students here in Hamilton County that could benefit from this program and learn something new,” said State Rep. Todd Huston (R-Fishers). “It’s important that anyone interested in participating in this program apply soon because openings fill quickly.”
Students who serve as pages are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Statehouse. Recommended days to serve include Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays when the House is in session.
“Meeting with students from our area is always a pleasure, and I value the opportunity to hear directly from them about what matters to young people in our community,” said State Rep. Donna Schaibley (R-Carmel). “I hope to see many local students participate in this program.”
