The University girls defeated Lawrence North 74-44 Saturday afternoon to run their record to 11-0.
Lily Snyder and Lindsey Syrek had 17 points each and Jenna Blakley had 16 as the Class 1A No. 3 Trailblazers scored their first win over a 4A team in nine seasons in their first ever game against a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference team.
The Trailblazers scored 16 consecutive points in the first quarter en route to a 26-9 advantage after one. Syrek put University in front for good at 6-5 with 6:14 left in the first. Another Syrek basket made the lead 8-5 before the Bears scored to cut the lead to 8-7.
Jhordan McGuire started the 16 point run with a lay-in off a pass from Syrek. Lily Snyder and Brooke Andrus hit back to back three pointers. A Lily Snyder free throw, Syrek basket, Maddi Sears three pointer made it 22-7. Before baskets by Syrek and Blakley completed the run.
Lawrence Central stepped up the physicality in the second quarter and clawed back to within seven points before Blakley helped University restore momentum with a three pointer and deep two in the last 50 seconds to send the Blazers to the locker room with a 36-23 advantage.
McGuire and Andrus picked up their fourth fouls early in the third quarter but the Bears could get no closer than 11 and the Trailblazers bench stepped up and help stretch the lead to as many as 20 points.
University is next in action Thursday night when it travels to New Castle Chrysler Fieldhouse to play the New Castle Trojans.
