The Hamilton Southeastern swim team hosted its annual Splash N Clash tournament on Saturday, and the meet featured some great results for both the Royals boys and girls.
HSE’s boys team won the meet, scoring 556 points to runner-up Homestead’s 496.
“One year ago, Homestead came in to the HSE Natatorium and crushed us in this meet,” said Royals coach Andy Pedersen. “One week ago, Homestead beat us up at their meet. One night ago, we scored this meet out on paper – Munster wins going away. Today, the 10th-ranked Royals won this meet in dominating fashion – no small feat considering that Munster (No. 4) and Homestead (No. 7) are both top 10 teams in the state.”
Southeastern picked up two event wins. First, senior Nathan Barr led a 1-2 sweep of diving, with freshman AJ Ricafort placing second. The Royals also won the 200 freestyle relay, which consisted of Andrew Christopher, Zack Bostock, Keegan Streett and DJ Rogers.
In the girls meet, the Royals finished a close second to Homestead. The Spartans scored 675 points to HSE’s 656.5, but the Royals had four event wins.
Molly Pedersen won two individual events, taking the 200 and 100 freestyles after swimming on the winning medley relay team with Abby Harter, Molly Robinson and Hannah Pugh. Robinson would later win the breaststroke.
“The coaching staff is very proud of the effort we saw today and this team will grow from this,” said Pedersen. This closes a really tough three week period of racing. Just like last year, we are watching this team come together at the right time.”
