Emplify, PEDCOR named OneZone Businesses of the Year

Emplify and PEDCOR shared the honor of being named Business of the Year at OneZone’s December 12 awards luncheon at Ritz Charles. Business of the Year awards were given to recognize a small to medium sized business and a large business.

Awards were also presented for young professional of the year, new construction and renovation projects, environmental sustainability, volunteerism and lifetime achievement.

Business of the Year Awards

Business of the Year is presented to businesses based on their success in growth and stability, commitment to quality, creative and unique solutions to challenges, entrepreneurial spirit and overall contribution to the community

The Business of the Year award for a small- to medium-sized business of the year was presented to Emplify. Located in Fishers, Emplify is on a mission to help one million employees do the best work of their careers. Giving organizations a way to unlock the potential of their people, Emplify’s Insights™ framework distills culture and feedback into employee analytics that enable leaders to make better data driven decisions.

PEDCOR was honored with the Business of the Year award for a large business. PEDCOR Companies develops, constructs and manages market rate and affordable housing communities throughout the United States. Founded in 1987, PEDCOR is the company behind the development of Carmel City Center, the Indiana Design Center and Carmel Old Town Shops in downtown Carmel.

Young Professional of the Year Award

The Young Professional of the Year Award recognizes a business person between the ages of 21 and 40 who has demonstrated leadership and passion for making a difference in his community based on leadership, mentorship, community involvement and entrepreneurship.

Courtney Lloyd, VP Private Banker at STAR Financial Bank, received the Young Professional of the Year award Along with her commitments to OneZone, she also is currently an Advisory Board Member and Finance Committee Member of Easterseals a board member and Links Board Chair of Rainmakers, and is a member of BAGI. Courtney formerly served as Treasurer and Vice President of BNI, Program Committee Member and Volunteer at Catch the Stars Foundation. When she is not propelling organizations forward with her leadership, Courtney volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, Food Rescue, and coaching and coordinating youth basketball.

Lifetime Achievement Awards

Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to recipients in both Carmel and Fishers in recognition of a lifetime commitment to business in these communities.

The Harold Kaiser Lifetime Achievement Award, given to an individual from Carmel, was presented to Dr. Winston Long. Winston and his company, Omni Centre for Public Media, have worked with the City of Carmel over the last 15 years. Winston’s company has received a variety of awards throughout the year including in 2014, Omni captured the Alliance for Community Media Central States award for general excellence, plus 10 awards for top videos. It also captured the national general excellence award in 2012 and 2013. In addition to his business success Winston has been a member of Carmel Rotary, chairs the Carmel Cable and Communication Commission and has served on the Police Commission, which is now the Police Merit Board.

Mike Peterson, who worked for 28 years at FORUM Credit Union, started as a volunteer on their Board of Directors in 1990. He served in a variety of leadership roles overseeing the investment advisory services and the risk/compliance areas. Mike also served on the HSE School board during a critical growth. Mike is currently a board member for Community Health Network and is a longtime and active member in the Fishers Rotary.

OneZone New Construction & Renovation Awards

Nominees for the OneZone new construction and renovation awards were judged on the quality of work, appropriateness of the construction to its surroundings and the contribution of the project to the overall look of the community.

OneZone New Construction Award was presented to Anthony’s Chophouse in Carmel, located in the Carmel Arts & Design District, on West Main Street, Carmel.

OneZone Renovation Award was presented to Citimark’s Visionary Building in Fishers located on Visionary Way.

Green Award

The Green Award recognizes an organization, company or association that is solving environmental challenges using innovative and green practices or by setting up creative partnerships to enhance the environment.

This year’s award was presented to the Hamilton County Commissioners for the Hamilton County Jail Solar Project. This project is part of a plan to reduce cost and lessen the county’s environmental impact. The project will result in an estimated gross savings of $25,139,000 million in utility and maintenance costs over 25 years and $13,495,463 in net savings after paying off the loan with interest. Power and energy efficiency solutions are expected to generate enough electricity to power 465 homes.

Most Valuable Volunteer Award

The Most Valuable Volunteer award was established to celebrate and recognize outstanding volunteer contributions by individuals who also work full time.

This year’s recipient is Sam Mishelow of Meyer Najem. He is currently serving on the Riverview Health Board of Directors, the Humane Society of Hamilton County Board, and the Carmel Police Department Merit Board. Sam completed the Carmel Police Department Citizen’s Academy. Additional board service includes the American Heart Association and their “Hard Hats with Heart” Executive Leadership Team. Sam and his firm, Meyer Najem have been involved in numerous fundraisers that have provided significant funding for Chaucie’s Place, Cherish Center, the Humane Society of Hamilton County, Community Health Network Foundation, Prevail, and the Riverview Health Foundation.
