The Hamilton Heights wrestling team hosted its Senior Night meet on Wednesday.
The Huskies took on the Pendleton Heights junior varsity team, and won by the score of 53-22. Before the meet, Heights honored its two seniors, Dreiken Dunn and Noah Lawson.
“If you’re a senior, you got a match, that’s always the best,” said Huskies coach Gary Myers. “All the parents can come out, the aunts and uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers. We need that.”
It was a competitive match as well, even with Heights getting a comfortable victory. Heights won the opener at 120 pounds when Josh Schnarr got a third-period pin, but the Arabians won the next match by major decision.
The Huskies took control by winning five consecutive bouts in the middle weights. Charlie Brown and Alex Kraus were winners by fall, then Cooper Mansfield received a forfeit victory at 145 pounds. Dunn picked up a 19-2 technical fall, then Bobby Williams won by pin.
Pendleton got two quick falls to keep within contention, but Lawson won the 195-pound match by a 9-7 decision to all but clinch the meet. Heights won the final three matches, getting victories from Alex Naylor (decision), Alijah Reynolds (win by forfeit) and Cole Cowan (pin).
“Pendleton Heights is a very competitive team,” said Myers. “I’m talking about JV to varsity, these guys are competitive. They know the basics very well. We’re happy to get a win on Senior Night.”
The Huskies will be off for the next two weeks, then return to action at the end of December for the Mooresville Holiday Classic.
“We have a lot of work to do,” said Myers. “And finally, all of our kids are coming back. We’ve had four or five kids out all year. We finally get them back Jan. 1.”
