University girls win ninth straight game, tying best start

The University girls shook off a sluggish start to win their ninth straight game to open the season, 81-39 over Pioneer Conference North foe Liberty Christian.
The ninth straight win to open the season ties the 2008-09 team for the most consecutive wins to open a season.
Junior Lindsey Syrek had a season-high 26 points to lead University as she moved past Bria Sneed in to second place on the all-time scoring list.  Brooke Andrus (14), Jenna Blakley (13) and Lily Snyder (10) also reached double figures.  Haley Tomlinson added nine.  University made 13 three pointers.
Liberty Christian held a 7-4 lead midway through the first quarter before University scored the last ten points of the quarter.  Snyder had back to back baskets to tie the game and give the Trailblazers for good at 10-7 on a three pointer.  Four points from Blakley and a three pointer from Tomlinson made the score 17-7 at the end of the period.
University put the game away with a 29 point second quarter Syrek had 13 points in the quarter, includiing eight straight points.  Andrus and Blakley each made two three pointers during the seocnd quarter.
University (3-0 in the PAAC North) is next in action Thursday night when they host the 8-0 Indiana School for the Deaf at 6 p.m.  There is no junior varsity game.
