Sheridan Elementary is participating in the Hour of Code event this week, which is National Computer Science Education Week.

The Hour of Code, organized by the non-profit Code.org and over 100 others, is a global movement that believes the students of today are ready to learn critical skills for 21st century success.

Sheridan Elementary School kicked it off on Monday with lessons in two of the second-grade and fifth-grade classes – and they loved it. Lessons in all grade levels followed this week.

Computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet, but fewer than half of all schools teach computer science. Girls and minorities are severely underrepresented in computer science classes and in the tech industry.

Sheridan Elementary is determined to change this, which is why students have been encouraged to join in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 3-9).

Sheridan Elementary School also wants to thank SOAR teacher Mrs. Kris Lingenfelter, for leading the charge in this mission.
