The Guerin Catholic girls basketball team was back in action Thursday night after 12 days.
The Golden Eagles had a tough Yorktown team waiting for them at the Eagles Nest. The Tigers pulled ahead in the second half and eventually won 65-38.
Yorktown led 13-7 after the first quarter, but Guerin held tough in the second period, staying within 23-18 at halftime. But a flurry of 3-pointers from the Tigers in the third quarter gave Yorktown a 46-28 lead after the period finished.
“We really went hard that first half, and they just hit a couple 3s that added to us losing our wind a little bit,” said GC coach Jeff Buckner. “And then they started pounding it inside to 33 (Tobi Bell). They’re a good team. They have some shooters, they have some people that can play in the post. When we took one thing away, they were able to get something else.”
A bright spot for the Golden Eagles was the play of their freshmen. Kathryn Loso was one of Guerin Catholic’s scoring co-leaders with 11 points, while Katie Koger scored seven points.
Senior Paige Bennett also scored 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Guerin Catholic is now 2-5 and will host Covenant Christian at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in a Circle City Conference game.
“The good part is we only got one day and we’re right back on the court, so we can’t really dwell on this too much,” said Buckner. “We just have to get ready to play on Saturday.”
