The Guerin Catholic boys basketball team finally got its season underway Tuesday with a 91-31 win over Herron at the Eagles Nest.
The Golden Eagles were playing their first game under new head coach Bobby Allen. Guerin’s players wasted no time giving Allen his first win, leading 30-6 after the first quarter and 40-15 at halftime. The Golden Eagles held Herron under 10 points in each period.
Thirteen different GC players scored. Bernie McGuinness led the way with 26 points, including 11 in the third quarter. Josh Osborn added 13 points, while Kian Sills scored eight.
Allen said his team was excited to be playing against someone after three and a half weeks.
“We were sluggish at times, but I thought our effort was where it needed to be,” said Allen. “I thought we had some energy out there. It’s always good to get a win, especially to open up the season.”
The Golden Eagles will be on the road for their next three games. They play at Roncalli Friday night in a Circle City Conference game, then travel to Hamilton Heights on Saturday. Guerin Catholic plays at Muncie Central on Dec. 8.
