The following statement was issued by the Noblesville Diversity Coalition regarding Friday’s shooting threat at Noblesville High School:
The Noblesville Diversity Coalition (NDC) was angered, saddened and disappointed to learn about the racist graffiti discovered at Noblesville High School. This was one student’s attempt to intimidate African-American students with the threat of violence. We applaud school officials and the Noblesville Police Department for taking quick action to investigate the incident, remove the suspected student, address the concerns of parents, students and staff and impose swift disciplinary actions.
Acts of hatred like this are precisely why the Noblesville Diversity Coalition’s mission is so important, which is to create a culture that understands, accepts, celebrates and respects our diversity. To achieve the culture of respect and kindness that we all want for Noblesville, we must stand together as a community to oppose those who promote and commit racism, hatred and violence towards others.

What they don’t say is how they messaged it to the kids. My niece said they segregated the Caucasian students from the African-American students to address them separately. She said that it was messaged in a way that loops all white students together and blame them for the racism in the school over the year. She came home crying saying that she doesn’t want to be labeled a racist for the color of her skin. It was a horrible way to address the situation. I’m surprised other student’s parents are not up in arms over how it was handled. Splitting groups up by race doesn’t teach them anything about diversity.
