So it was this past Sunday when my granddaughter, Alecksa and I pulled into the drive thru at a fast food place to get my mom a Mexican Pizza (no meat). There were five cars ahead of me in line.
I waited to be the next one to give my order.
The guy in the speaker asked for my order. The trouble was I was just far enough away that he could not hear me. You see the car in front of me would not move up to allow me to be close enough to be heard. (Yes, she had room to move) There I was yelling “A Mexican Pizza with no meat!”
The guy said, “Is anyone there?” Me: “YES, I’m here, a Mexican Pizza with no meat”
The guy said, “Sorry, I can’t understand you.”
So, I waited until the car moved and gave my order. Five minutes had gone by. I put my car in park and waited to move up. Ten minutes went by.
I began doing the impatient finger tap on the steering wheel. I checked Facebook. I deleted emails. Fifteen minutes went by.
At that point, I looked at Alecksa and said, “Seriously, what happened to Fast Food??? I could have gone to Meijer and picked up the ingredients and made it myself faster than this. Oh my goodness.”
Alecksa smiled and said, “Grandma, it is well.”
“It is well with my soul” is the hymn that we had just sung in church that morning. I always wipe liquid blessings that flow down my cheeks whenever I sing that song. Alecksa reminded me that if I have to wait a long time in the drive thru that I am still blessed. I shouldn’t complain about waiting. But seriously. My soul was well but my patience…not so well.
After twenty minutes I was handed the Mexican Pizza from the drive thru window. I wanted to say something but I knew Alecksa would remind me that it is well.
As we walked into my mom’s house and I handed her the pizza she said, “where have you been???”
I said, “we were held hostage in the drive thru.” I explained to her what happened. Oh well, my mom was happy and when she is happy…all is well.
If I ever need reminded of that I just have to sit in a drive thru for twenty minutes with Alecksa.
