The weekend weather forecast and concern for the public’s well-being has caused city officials to postpone the grand opening of Federal Hill Commons to Saturday, May 13.
“With the threat of thunderstorms and the overall amount of rain expected, we made the decision to postpone our opening event,” Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear said about moving the event from April 29. “The forecast of wet weather conditions created a high possibility that the kids’ activity area and fireworks would be canceled and the grass lawn would be torn apart at our first event. We also wanted to provide our residents, guests and event vendors enough notice so they could plan for their weekend.”
Noblesville will open its fifth city park, Federal Hill Commons, with a free celebration and concert featuring the Wright Brothers from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 13. The 6.5-acre urban park is named after its location in the Federal Hill District and incorporates the city’s history into its design.
“We want Federal Hill Commons’ grand opening to be a celebration worthy of this new facility and moving the event date will allow us to do so,” said Parks Director Brandon Bennett. “It was not an easy decision, but one we feel is in the best interest of everyone involved in the event – especially our guests. Thankfully, we have spoken with our grand opening partners and will offer the same experience as we had originally planned just two weeks later on May 13.”

Federal Hill Commons, a 6.5-acre urban park, sits on the northwest corner of the intersection of State Road 19 and State Road 32 that includes a beautiful amphitheater, market plaza and event space. The new park will be a gathering space for events and music performances and serve as an economic development catalyst extending Downtown Noblesville across the White River. The city’s fifth park was added to the Noblesville Parks Master Plan in August 2013. The city broke ground on Sept. 10, 2015 and will hold its grand opening on May 13, 2017.
