Golden Eagles edged by Chatard

Guerin Catholic gave Bishop Chatard all it could handle on Friday night in a Circle City Conference game at the Trojans’ field.
It took until the last play for Chatard to finally come away with a 21-13 victory. The game was a match-up between two of the best teams in Class 3A, with the Trojans ranked No. 2 and the Golden Eagles ranked No. 6.
Guerin got the first score of the game just 19 seconds into the first quarter, when Dylan Crossen streaked down the field 79 yards to score a touchdown. Chatard would answer a couple minutes later with a 2-yard scoring run.
Nathan Friedman kicked a field goal in the second quarter to get GC up 10-7, but a pass play late in the period got the Trojans the lead back, 14-10 at halftime. Friedman struck again early in the fourth, with a 31-yard field goal to get the Golden Eagles within 14-13.
Chatard made a 2-yard run with 6:30 left to increase its lead to eight points. Guerin Catholic did get one more chance on the very last play, but a last pass fell incomplete.
Crossen finished the game with 158 yards rushing on 19 carries.
The win gave Bishop Chatard an undefeated conference championship, with a 3-0 record. The Trojans are also unbeaten for the season at 6-0.
Meanwhile, this was the first conference game for the Golden Eagles, who also dropped to 4-2 overall. Guerin will take a long road trip to Michigan next Friday to play Pontiac Notre Dame.
