Boys tennis: Smith and Voigt win for Noblesville, Huskies battle Pendleton

Noblesville dropped a 4-1 dual meet to Cathedral on Thursday.
The Millers’ No. 1 doubles team of senior Ben Smith and junior Evan Voigt got the lone win, 6-3, 6-2.

Hamilton Heights fell to Pendleton Heights 5-0 on Thursday.
The Huskies were playing their fourth match in four days. All the matches were won in straight sets, with No. 2 doubles Liam Huss and Jake Martin extending their opponents to 6-3, 6-4.
Heights’ junior varsity team won 5-3. Kal Colter won in singles, while the doubles team of Drew Pennington and Tanner Maynard won two matches. Eli VanHaaren won two matches, one with Grant Cavanaugh and the other with Ethan Hall.
“We’ve had a long week so far and I have been impressed with how much fight our team has in them,” said Huskies coach Justin Davis. “Even when they are tired, they keep fighting. Just like a lot of other matches this season, our players have been in the match, getting to deuce in many games, just haven’t been able to finish those games on the winning side. The scores don’t reflect how well everyone did today. It’ll be nice to have an easy practice tomorrow, then back to work against Lebanon on Saturday.”

Westfield won a dual meet over Kokomo 5-0 on Wednesday for the Shamrocks’ Senior Night.
All five seniors – WeiBin Cheah, Alex Mullet, Shekar Supanekar, Jason Gabennesch and Dominic Kazeck – won matches. Junior Connor Maris and freshman Brett Barnes also picked up wins.
This was the regular-season finale for Westfield, which is 9-3 for the season. The ‘Rocks will play at the Carmel sectional next week.
