Boys tennis: Huskies drop tough match to Western

The Hamilton Heights boys tennis team dropped a 5-0 dual meet to Western in a Wednesday Hoosier Conference meet.
The closest match came from No. 3 singles Ben Wolfgang, who won the first set in a tiebreak 7-4, lost the second set 6-4, then fell in a third set super tiebreak 10-8.
“We fought hard against a tough Western team,” said Huskies coach Justin Davis. “I was very happy with the way our team played and acted, both on and off the court.”
Davis mentioned the efforts of Wolfgang and No. 2 singles player JP Etchison, who lost 6-0, 6-4.
“Even though every player on my team deserves credit, I want to mention the efforts from my No. 2 and No. 3 singles: JP and Ben,” said Davis. “JP lost big in the first set, but was in the entire second set until the very end. As for Ben, he pulled away with the first set in a long battle. He kept fighting through the second set and through the super tiebreak, barely losing both of those. Being our third match in three days, I’m impressed with how conditioned, both physically and mentally, my team is; they just keep pushing through regardless of how tired they get.”
Heights will play a dual match at Lebanon on Saturday morning.

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 16 in the state, lost a 3-2 dual meet to No. 11 Cathedral on Wednesday.
The Royals’ wins came from their doubles teams. No. 1 Matthew Parker and Matt Meyer won their match 6-1, 6-2, while No. 2 Mahek Chougule and McGuire Wolfe were victorious 6-2, 6-2.
Southeastern is now 9-5 for the season and plays Park Tudor on Monday in their regular-season finale.
