Boys soccer: Millers roar past FC, Royals upset No. 1 Zionsville

The Noblesville boys soccer team roared to a 4-0 Hoosier Crossroads Conference win over Franklin Central on Tuesday.
The game was scoreless at halftime, although Tommy Gregory made a shot that hit the post. Meanwhile, Josh Lewis kicked away a breakaway by the Flashes. The Millers got on the board in the second half with Gabe Imes getting the first goal, a low shot to the far post past the goalkeeper.
Palmer Ault scored Noblesville’s second goal with a kick to the near post upper 90. Sam Johnson sent a back heel pass to Curtis Martin, who put it in for his first ever varsity goal. On the fourth goal, Sam Dudgeon, Drew Barnes and Tyler Cassidy made a combination play, with Cassidy finishing the shot.
The Millers are 2-3 in HCC play and 7-5-1 overall. Noblesville will host Class 3A No. 18 Lawrence Central on Thursday for Senior Night.

Hamilton Southeastern, the No. 4 team in 3A, upset 3A No. 1 Zionsville 1-0 on Tuesday in another HCC game.
The Royals scored the winning goal with six minutes left in the second half. Sean Williams crossed a ball to Jacob White, who put it into the upper 90 for the score.
The win leaves Southeastern as the only undefeated team left in the conference at 4-0-1. The Eagles are 5-1 in the HCC, although they still lead the point standings with 15, to the Royals’ 13. Southeastern is 9-1-2 overall and hosts Highland on Saturday afternoon.

Fishers, ranked No. 11 in 3A, played to a 1-1 tie with Avon in its Tuesday HCC game.
Cam O’Connor scored the goal for the Tigers, who are now 3-2-1 in the conference and 9-2-2 overall. Fishers hosts New Palestine on Saturday morning.

Carmel played to a 1-1 tie with Pike on Tuesday in a Metropolitan Conference game.
The 3A No. 15 Greyhounds got their goal from senior Caleb Hussain, with senior Jack Gerard making the assist.
“After a slow start, I thought we controlled to second half much better,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “We will continue working on finishing off a game. We will head back to the training facility to prepare for two more games this week.”
Carmel is 3-1-8 and plays at Cathedral on Thursday.

Westfield fought back to tie 3A No. 12 Brownsburg 3-3 in a Tuesday HCC game.
The Bulldogs led 2-0 at halftime. The Shamrocks began their comeback with a goal by Miguel Ayala, who made a free kick that caught the inside of the post. Westfield then tied the game, with Nick Rogers laying off a heel pass to David Green, who finished by putting it in the goal.
Brownsburg took the lead again on a penalty kick, but the ‘Rocks scored in the game’s final minute when Noah Lancaster hit a free kick to Rogers, who slipped it into the side net.
The tie was the first in the conference for Westfield after five losses.

Sheridan made a big second-half comeback before falling to Carroll 3-2 on Tuesday in a Hoosier Heartland Conference game.
The Cougars led 2-0 at halftime and added a goal early in the second half. Caleb Duke scored both of the Blackhawks’ goals, the first on a penalty kick at the 21:57 mark, and the second with 3:10 left on a close-range shot.
“We weren’t playing poorly that first half,” said Sheridan coach Derry Zachery. “They got a quick goal on a corner, and then they got a rebounded shot, put it in the back of the net.”
“It was nice to see the boys pick it up in that second half and we just really gradually continued to put on the pressure and build the intensity and we’re playing our best soccer of the year.”
The Blackhawks are 2-2 in the HHC and 3-4 overall.

Hamilton Heights dropped a 4-1 game to Eastern on Tuesday.
The Comets scored two goals in the first half. The Huskies got on the board four minutes into the second half when Drew Tomaszewski made a penalty kick. But Eastern scored two more goals in the final four minutes.
Caleb Grabarz made eight goalkeeper saves, and was one of the players of the game, sharing that honor with Zach Clark. Heights coach Derrick Dean said they both gave 110 percent.
