Hamilton Heights broke through for its first win of the season on Friday, cruising past Northwestern 30-7 in an away game.
It was a good time to win, as it was also the opener for the Huskies in Hoosier Conference East Division play. Heights began its run to victory with 2:16 left in the first quarter when Carter Campassi scored on a quarterback keeper.
Seconds later, Alex Roth recovered a fumble for the Huskies, and Campassi delivered a touchdown pass to Tad DeFoe, putting Heights up 14-0 with 1:37 left. Michael Lecher then kicked a 30-yard field goal, putting the Huskies up 17-0 at halftime.
The Tigers scored early in the third quarter, but that was a mere bump in the road. Campassi scored his second touchdown of the game on another keeper, then Cordell Cowan ran in from seven yards to get a TD of his own.
With the victory, the Huskies are tied with Tipton atop the East Division leaderboard with Tipton. Both schools are 1-0. Heights will return home next Friday to take on Western, which has yet to play a conference game this season. The Panthers are 3-1 with wins over Twin Lakes, Rensselaer Central and Benton Central, and a Week 2 loss to Lafayette Jefferson.
