Mudsock week continued Wednesday night with girls soccer, and although it was another tense battle, an early score gave Hamilton Southeastern the victory.
The Class 3A No. 1 Royals beat 3A No. 9 Fishers 1-0 in front of another large crowd at the HSE field. With the win, Southeastern moved ahead in the overall sports point standings, 3.5-2.5. (Tuesday’s boys soccer game finished in a 1-1 tie, thus the half-point). Also, the Royals remain perfect in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference at 4-0.
The Royals’ goal came seven minutes into the game, when Ava Keaffaber made a steal and kicked the ball into the upper 90. Southeastern maintained control of the game for the first half and then for most of the second half as well, stopped only by a lightning delay that extended halftime to 45 minutes.
“We moved the ball well,” said Royals coach Greg Davidson. “We penetrated their midfield very well. They’re a great defensive team, very organized, so our shot selection just was a little off.”
Southeastern is now 7-1-1 overall. Fishers is 2-2 in HCC play and 4-2 overall.
In another big HCC game, 3A No. 2 Noblesville and Westfield played to a 0-0 tie at the Millers’ White River Elementary School field.
With the tie, both teams are now 2-0-1 in conference play and share second place in the HCC standings. Noblesville is 5-1-2 overall, while the Shamrocks are 3-4-1.
University defeated International 6-0, clinching an undefeated Pioneer Conference championship.
Lily Snyder scored three goals for the 1A No. 12 Trailblazers, with Arya Narayanan, Lucy Snyder and Halle Von Ah all scoring one. Von Ah handed out three assists, with Tessa Hudson making two and Audrey Blocksom one.
University finished conference play with a 4-0 record. The Trailblazers have a 5-3 record overall.
Carmel, ranked No. 4 in 3A, improved its Metropolitan Conference record to 4-0 with a 2-0 win over Lawrence Central on Wednesday.
Emily Roper scored both goals for the Greyhounds. Erin Baker made one save.
“Emily Roper had a great game tonight scoring a brace against Lawrence Central,” said Carmel coach Frank Dixon. “Both scores came off corner kicks served by Jessica Greven.”
Carmel is 7-1-1 overall and hosts another MIC game Monday against North Central.
