Hamilton Heights ran into one of the best teams in Class 3A – if not the entire state – on Friday night.
The Huskies hosted West Lafayette, and after a close first quarter, the 3A No. 3 Red Devils stunned Heights for 42 second-quarter points. West Lafayette continued to roll in the second half and ultimately won the game 76-0, keeping its record unbeaten at 3-0.
The Huskies were keeping pace with the Red Devils in the first period, only trailing 7-0. But once West Lafayette got rolling, it couldn’t be stopped. The Red Devils rushed for 198 yards and threw for 393 yards, including six passing touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the West Lafayette defense held the Huskies to only 40 all purpose yards, 42 passing and minus 2 rushing. Despite this, Carter Campassi had a decent passing day, completing six of 10 throws for 32 yards. Isiah Campbell had four receptions. Cordell Cowan had 16 yards rushing to lead the ground game.
Heights is now 0-3 for the season. The Huskies will begin play in the Hoosier Conference East Division next week, traveling to Northwestern. The Panthers are also 0-3 and will be playing their conference opener as well.
