Three Hamilton County teams played games Friday night at the Zionsville girls soccer Invitational.
Noblesville, the No. 2 team in Class 3A, beat Sylvania Northview (Ohio) 4-2. Jenna Chatterton scored all four goals in a career performance. Chatterton scored three of her goals in the first half, with Keely Hoopingarner assisting the third goal.
The Millers are 5-0-1 and play Sacred Heart (Louisville) at 4:45 p.m. today. This will be after the Noblesville and Sacred Heart junior varsity teams play at 3 p.m.
Carmel, ranked No. 4 in 3A, beat two-time defending state champion and 3A No. 6 Penn 1-0. Elyse Reed scored the Greyhounds’ goal in the fifth minute.
“It is always great to play in the Zionsville tournament where we get the opportunity to test ourselves against the best soccer teams from around the Midwest,” said Carmel coach Frank Dixon.
“The game against Penn showed that we are still a very good defensive team but have a long way to go as an offense. I feel that we are currently a confused team when on the attack. When we get back to practice next week we will spend some time watching tape. Hopefully that will help with the confusion.
“Several players had a good game, lead by senior outside back Emily Speidel. Emily pushed the attack on the right side of the field. Elyse Reed, Cassidy Eckstein and Elizabeth Hargis really battled on defense.”
The Greyhounds are 4-1-1 for the season and play Notre Dame Academy from Toledo at 1:15 p.m. today.
Hamilton Southeastern, the top-ranked 3A team, beat Simon Kenton (Ky.) 5-1 on Friday night. The Royals are 6-0-1 and play Pickerington North (Ohio) at 4:45 p.m. today.
University beat Bethesda Christian 11-1 in a Pioneer Conference game Friday in front of a full house.
The 1A No. 6 Trailblazers found the back of the net early in the game and never looked back. Junior Tessa Hudson had two goals, while senior Halle Von Ah scored twice off of two free kicks and had one assist. Senior Lily Snyder added two more goals for the Trailblazers, and senior Lillian Klemsz, sophomore Brooke Toombs, and freshmen Audrey Blocksom and Sydney Epstein each had one goal.
Seniors Kenzie Allen, Brooke Andrus, Hallie Harrison, Lucy Snyder, Lauren Flickner, Meredith Malott, Lydia Copeland, and Arya Narayanan all had solid games for the Trailblazers, as did junior goalkeeper Lilly Fair. The Trailblazers play again on Tuesday at 1A No. 14 Cardinal Ritter.
