The Westfield volleyball team played in the Yorktown Invitational on Saturday, finishing 1-3 for the day.
The Shamrocks defeated Bellmont 22-25, 25-20, 25-11, then fell to Delta 25-15, 26-24; Concordia Lutheran 18-25, 25-18, 16-14 and Roncalli 25-22, 25-22.
Shamrocks coach Sandra Burks said that the team was used to the multiple matches, since this type of schedule is played by club teams during the off-season. Burks said that from the first week to now she is seeing more of the team’s pieces coming together and looks for the trend to continue into the ultimate season playoff: The sectional. Westfield is also hoping to see a few more wins along the way against its challenging schedule.
Sheridan competed at the Indiana School for the Deaf Invitational on Saturday, finishing 1-2 to take third place.
The Blackhawks beat ISD 25-23, 25-16. Allie Delph had seven digs, seven assists, five kills and three aces. Emma Went put down four kills, Olivia Raines collected 11 digs and Becca Merritt made eight blocks.
Sheridan lost to Eastern Hancock 26-24, 17-25, 15-5. Maddie Zola made four digs and handed out two assists. Delph dished out three assists to go with two aces and two kills. Merritt made five blocks, Josie Dickerson had six digs and Cheyenne Brooks had five blocks and two aces. Went collected three digs and hit two kills. Raines led the defense with 18 digs.
The Blackhawks fell to Southwestern Shelby 25-15, 25-6. Dickerson had two kills, while Went made five digs. Delph again had three assists and two kills. Zola dished out three assists and made one block. Merritt had one block and Brooks served one ace.
Noblesville dropped a three-set match to New Castle, one of the top teams in Class 3A, 25-23, 25-17, 25-23 on Saturday.
Lexie Almodovar hit 10 kills for the Millers.
