The Noblesville boys soccer team got its first win of the season on Thursday, beating Brebeuf Jesuit 1-0 at the White River Elementary field.
The Millers scored their goal in the second half with 25 minutes remaining. Noblesville was awarded a penalty kick due to a hand ball in the penalty area, and Jack Miller converted, sending the ball past the goalkeeper. The Braves pushed for the tying goal, but the Millers’ defense, anchored by goalkeeper Adam Carter, secured the victory.
“The Millers were short handed for most of the game with multiple players picking up injuries,” said NHS coach Ken Dollaske. “The Millers were able to persevere despite the short bench.”
Noblesville will host Fishers on Tuesday in its Teacher Appreciation Night game.
Westfield picked up a road win at Harrison on Thursday, by the score of 5-2.
Owen Longest scored three goals and made an assist, with Miguel Ayala and Ellis Douthit each scoring one goal. Charlie Degnan, Nick Rogers and Ayala all made assists. Rogers, Colin McClaren and Max Von Arx all steadied the midfield, allowing wings Ayala and Longest to make the attack.
The Shamrocks are back on the road Saturday, playing at Greenfield-Central.
Hamilton Heights, ranked No. 13 in Class 2A, dropped its first game of the season on Thursday, losing to New Castle 1-0.
“The Huskies came out flat and tried to move the ball but just seemed off a half a step with one another,” said Heights coach Derrick Dean. “The Huskies started the half attacking with a few quick great looks at the goal but with one fast counter the Trojans scored six minutes into the game. The Huskies defense was in great position and tried to deflect but couldn’t get enough to prevent the goal.”
Heights controlled the ball for the majority of the second half (80 percent, said Dean), outshooting New Castle 5-1, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Caleb Grabarz had two goalkeeper saves.
“Player of the game goes to Jackson Stuart for his poise and smart play,” said Dean. “Everyone has bad games but what makes a great team different from a good team is how they bounce back.”
Carmel, ranked No. 7 in 3A, lost a 1-0 Metropolitan Conference match to Center Grove on Thursday.
Senior Brody Sullivan had six saves for the Greyhounds, who are 0-1-3 for the season.
