Monday marked the beginning of Startup Week Across America. This week, a bipartisan coalition of House members will draw attention to the important role startups play in the U.S. economy and how Congress can help support their efforts to grow and succeed.
The bipartisan coalition includes Susan W. Brooks (R-Ind.), Suzan DelBene, (D-Wash.), Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.), Jerry McNerney (D-Calif.), Mimi Walters, (R-Calif.) and Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.).
In 2015, startup firms created 2.5 million jobs, roughly 15 percent of all new job creation that year. In 2017, startups represented almost 9.5 percent of all private sector firms in the United States. Firms less than a year old and with 10 or fewer employees created 1.9 million jobs, and more than half of these jobs were created by firms with four employees or less.

As new startups are launched, we are seeing more job and career opportunities for people across the country. These dynamic companies act as entrepreneurial leaders, innovators, and job creators within our communities and it is Congress’ responsibility to ensure they can work in an environment that encourages success and growth. I am proud to represent the local startup community in Indiana’s 5th District and remain committed to providing them with the resources needed to succeed.”
