In a Thursday all-county volleyball match, Hamilton Heights swept 25-8, 25-18, 25-9 at the Husky Dome.
It was the first win of the year for the young Heights team, making its record 1-2. Senior Hannah Crist led the Huskies with five kills, while sophomore Jillian Osswald made 14 digs on defense. Another sophomore, Ella Shields, came off the bench and hit three kills.
Heights coach Steve Ward said it was good for the team, which is playing four freshmen, to get its first victory of the season.
“It was nice to get a win, and it was a good team win,” said Ward. “Everyone played well, which will hopefully do well for us this Saturday when we’re at the Ritter Tournament.”
For the Blackhawks, sophomore Allie Delph and junior Cheyenne Brooks both had one kill. Sophomore Emma Went and Delph both served one ace. Brooks had three blocks, with Delph and senior Olivia Raines each making two blocks.
Delph and Raines both had four digs, while senior Maddie Zola and Delph both handed out one assist.
Noblesville dropped a four-set match at Bishop Chatard on Thursday, 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-12.
Lexie Almodovar hit 17 kills and collected nine digs. Rose Crist put down 14 kills, while Ava Nichols dished out 43 assists.
University lost a tough four-set match to Park Tudor on Thursday, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 25-18 at the “U” Center.
The Trailblazers are 1-1 for the season; they opened the year on Tuesday with a 25-14, 25-11, 25-21 win over Traders Point Christian Academy. Freshman Jillian Sager had nine kills in that match. Junior Elise Nachlis had 10 digs and junior Jillian Monroe handed out 18 assists.
Fishers picked up a second road win on Wednesday, beating McCutcheon 25-19, 25-17, 25-16.
The Tigers earned 29 kills, nine blocks, and eight aces on the night. A pair of sophomores led Fishers in kills: opposite Camryn Haworth put down eight and middle Jada Allen had seven. Two other sophomores helped the Tigers’ offense: utility middle Mikayla Christiansen hit five and outside Emily Waldrop put down three. Senior setter Rose Duffy collected 23 assists.”Senior libero Emma Rosenberg’s 13 digs led the team, and she played a pivotal role in slowing down McCutcheon’s go-to hitters, outsides Carli Leonard and Brooke Humphrey,” said Fishers coach Steven Peek.Haley Soper led the Tigers’ blocking with three, followed by Allen with 2.5 and Haworth with 1.5. (3.0), Allen (2.5), and Haworth (1.5).
Fishers will play two home matches next week, welcoming Bishop Chatard on Tuesday and Zionsville on Thursday for a Hoosier Crossroads Conference match.
Westfield was swept by Greenfield-Central on Wednesday 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 in the Shamrocks’ home opener.
Despite the loss, Westfield improved offensively. Westfield was led by Sarah Weglarz with 22 assists, in serve receive by Ellary Detamore and Chloe Owens, in digs by Bailey Mendler with 10 and Peighton Isley with eight, and in kills by Kinsey McAfee with 11 and Kenzie Daffinee with 10.
