Myron Vaughn believes that Mother Nature is a fan of the Shamrock Charity Challenge.
The weather looked ominous in Westfield all day Saturday, and that could have caused problems for the Westfield boys soccer team’s annual event that benefits Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital. But everything held off for the Charity Challenge’s second day. The event finishes up today at the Westfield soccer field.
“It’s been great,” said Vaughn, the former Shamrock coach who serves as director for the Charity Challenge. “We looked at the forecast on Friday, it was a little worrying going into it.”
Vaughn said the tournament has already raised in excess of $8,500, which is a solid amount considering the weather.
“You never know what you’re going to go get in terms of donations and people coming in, buying concessions, all that stuff,” said Vaughn. “But we’ve gone above and beyond what I’ve thought and to be able to go over that $100,000 mark in the 10th year is really special and it shows what it means to us.”
