Millers beat Guerin Catholic to advance to regional finals

In a rematch from the 2017 Regional Finals, the fifth-seeded Noblesville Millers faced off against the 12th-seeded Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles on Tuesday for the right to advance to the Regional Finals for the third year in a row. The Millers won 15-8.
The Millers took a 3-0 lead with 19:42 remaining in the first half and maintained a three-point lead when junior Kylie Morris hit the back of the net off of a pass from Junior Kaylin Mertens at the 4:11 mark. The Eagles mounted a comeback, scoring 3 goals to tie the game with 49 seconds left in the first half. Junior Morris took the draw and drove to the goal to score with only 1.9 seconds left in the half, putting the Millers back up by a score of 6-5.
The Millers started the second half with the hot sticks, scoring four goals, including two by freshman Emma Potter, by the 17:11 mark, talking the lead to 10-5. The game was back and forth the remainder of the game, ending with two goals by junior Kayla Kubel in the last two minutes of the game. The final score had the Millers on top 15-8.
Offensively, the Millers were led by four players who each scored three goals and had one assist (Morris, Potter, Kubel and Mertens). Defensively, the Millers had two players with one blocked pass, two interceptions and two caused turnovers each (junior Erin Wilson and junior Grace Hammond), along with Kubel who had three caused turnovers. Senior Goalie Meredith Hayes stopped a season-high 65 percent of the Guerin shots.
The Millers (14-8-1) will face the Kingsmen from Penn High School in the Regional Finals game. The date and time of the game is yet to be determined.
